![]() ![]() While the birth and death specifics are unknown, the burial was found within the reused royal necropolis of King Teti who reigned two millennia before this burial was made. In each hand she holds a tall blue feather, one dark the other light. She is shown with spread blue and gold wings, and outstretched arms. During Tutankhamun’s funeral, priests poured such large amounts of resin over his mummy that when it solidified, the body, and the gold mask it wore, were left glued to the coffin. Multiple bands across the torso and upper legs show many Ancient Egyptian deities including the goddess Maat, the goddess of balance and truth who sat in judgment over the souls of the dead. The face was covered with a gilded mask showing a softly-smiling face, black eyebrows, clear black eyes. ![]() The mummy was covered from head to toe in brightly coloured cartonage burial material. It was placed in a decorated case – probably made of a mixture of linen and papyrus – and placed within a plain outer wood coffin. The mummy was found at the bottom of a shaft 6m (20ft) deep. The necropolis, which contains many temples and burial chambers, is in Saqqara, about 20km (12 miles) south of Cairo. ![]() The identity of the mummy is unknown.The ancient Egyptian was probably wealthy owing to the fine gold used to make the mummy’s mask and the location of the burial. The mummy is unidentified from the 30th dynasty, had been closed in a wooden sarcophagus and buried in sand at the bottom of a 20' shaft before being discovered by an archaeological team. The 2,300 year old mummy wearing a golden mask was unveiled at Egypt's Saqqara Pyramids complex south of Cairo. ![]()
